Frequently Asked Questions

Will it cool my whole house?
No, and nobody selling you one honestly should say otherwise. This is a 14,000 BTU single-room unit rated to 700 sq ft. A verified buyer put it best: it will not cool an entire home or an entire floor, but one bedroom, office, den or workout room it will do, and do well. One owner keeps a 20 x 24 ft room with a vaulted ceiling at 73F. If you want more than one room, leave the doors open and expect the far rooms to come down a few degrees, not to match.
Is it quiet enough to sleep next to?
Sleep Mode runs at 42 dB, which is roughly a quiet library or a fridge humming across the room, and the display dims itself at the same time. Owners describe it as 'not loud but not quiet either' and say it does not interfere with sleep. It is a compressor, so it is not silent. Anything that claims silence at 14,000 BTU is not telling you the truth.
Do I have to empty a water tank?
In cooling mode, almost never. The 72-hour auto-evaporation system recycles condensate back over the condenser and blows it out of the window with the exhaust, so in normal humidity there is nothing to empty. One owner specifically called out 'no worrying about drainage at least on cooling mode'. Running it as a dehumidifier in a damp basement is the exception, and that is what the included drain hose is for. Attach it once and let it run to a floor drain.
Will it go musty like my last one?
That is what the auto-dry cycle is for. When you switch the unit off, the fan keeps running to dry the evaporator so moisture is not left sitting inside. A buyer who had to throw away a previous portable AC because it grew mould he could not clean out bought this one specifically for that feature and reports no smell after six weeks. If you get a faint odour out of the box, run it on Fan for fifteen minutes with a window open and it clears.
Will it trip my breaker?
It draws 1,200 watts, which is about 10 amps, on a 115 V outlet. That is fine on its own dedicated 15 A circuit. It is not fine sharing a circuit with a gaming PC, a NAS, a space heater or a microwave. Our one 3-star reviewer found exactly that and could not run his AC and his PC at once. Put it on a wall outlet that is not shared with other heavy loads, and never on a thin household extension lead. The heavy-duty 12 AWG appliance cord in the add-ons exists for this.
Will the window kit fit my window?
The included kit fits horizontal and vertical sliding windows with an opening from 20.39 in to 67 in, which covers most American double-hung and slider windows. It does not fit crank-out casement windows or awning windows without the universal casement seal, which is in the All-Weather Setup. Check your window before you order, because it is the one thing that turns a 20-minute job into a bad afternoon.
How hard is the setup, really?
Tool-free and about 20 minutes. Panels slide to length, the hose twists onto the back and clips into the window bracket. Buyers who described themselves as nervous about it still got it done, and several called it seamless. If you would rather not lift it alone, get a second pair of hands: the unit is 66 lb.
How heavy is it and can I move it between rooms?
66 lb on four casters. Rolling it across a level floor is easy. Carrying it up a flight of stairs is a two-person job, and lifting it into a bath to drain it, which you should not need to do, is definitely two people. Most owners install it once and leave it for the season.
What does it cost to run?
Rated at 900 kWh a year, which at the US average of about 17 cents a kWh is roughly $150 across a full cooling season, or a little over a dollar a day if you run it every day of the summer. Eco and Sleep modes cycle the compressor down and cut that. It uses R32 refrigerant, which carries a lower global warming potential than the R410A in older units.
What if it does not work for my room?
You have 60 days. Install it, run it through a real heatwave, and if it does not hold your room at a temperature you are happy with, send it back for a full refund. You do not need to give us a reason.
Why is it so much cheaper here than everywhere else?
We are clearing this batch of stock ahead of the season changeover. The price holds while the batch lasts and goes back to normal retail when the sale ends tonight.
How quickly will it arrive?
Free shipping in the US, dispatched within 24 hours. Most addresses see it inside 3 to 6 business days; Alaska and Hawaii take a little longer.

Why people buy one

One room the cold never reaches.

“I have a medium sized top floor apartment. The summer has gotten to be brutal. Felt like I didn’t have AC at all and I have ‘central air’. As soon as it was installed and turned on, within the hour it brought the home temps down. Now on day 3 and my living room, kitchen and dining room are ice cold.”

The portable air conditioner cooling a living space

The room that never gets cold

Central air that gives up before it reaches you

The usual problem
Adding a zone or a mini-split means a contractor, a permit and four figures, for one room you use three months a year.
On this unit
14,000 BTU pointed at one room. A buyer with “central air” that felt like no AC at all had her living room, kitchen and dining room ice cold by day three.
Dehumidifier and dry mode controls on the unit

The bucket

Emptying a water tank twice a night

The usual problem
Most portables fill a reservoir and then simply stop cooling until you kneel down and drain it. In a humid week that is every few hours.
On this unit
72-hour auto-evaporation recycles the condensate over the condenser and blows it out with the exhaust. One owner’s words: “no worrying about drainage.”
The evaporator coil the auto-dry cycle keeps dry

The smell

Opening it next June and finding mould

The usual problem
Water left standing on the evaporator all winter is how a portable AC turns into something you cannot clean and have to throw away.
On this unit
An auto-dry cycle keeps the fan running after shutdown to dry the coil. A buyer who binned his last unit over exactly this bought this one for the feature.
Energy efficiency and power draw of the unit

The breaker

Tripping the circuit every time it kicks in

The usual problem
1,200 W on a circuit already carrying a PC, a NAS or a space heater will trip it. Our one 3-star reviewer hit exactly this and had to choose between his AC and his desk.
On this unit
Give it a wall outlet that is not shared with other heavy loads, and use a 12 AWG appliance cord rather than a thin household lead. We put one in the add-ons for $24.99.
Adjustable window panels and exhaust hose bracket

The window

An afternoon lost to a kit that does not fit

The usual problem
Kits are cut for one window shape. Casements and patio doors get left with a taped-up gap that lets the heat straight back in.
On this unit
Panels slide from 20.39" to 67", tool-free, in about 20 minutes. And if you have a casement we send the universal seal instead of letting you find out on the day.
Sleep mode running quietly overnight in a bedroom

The noise

A compressor you cannot sleep through

The usual problem
Cheap units run one fan speed at full tilt and light the room up with a display you cannot switch off.
On this unit
Sleep Mode drops to 42 dB and dims the display on its own. Buyers describe it as quiet enough not to interfere with sleep. Not silent, and we are not going to claim it is.

Overview

A single-room air conditioner for the room your central air never quite reaches. It vents through a window you already have, it is quiet enough to sleep beside, and in cooling mode there is nothing to empty.

  • 14,000 BTU ASHRAE, rated to 700 sq ft: one large room, not a whole house
  • 72-hour auto-evaporation, so no bucket and no kneeling down to drain it
  • 42 dB in Sleep Mode with the display dimmed automatically
  • Cools, dehumidifies at 76 pints a day, or runs as a plain fan
  • WiFi, app, voice and remote control; schedules so the room is cold before you are in it
  • Tool-free window kit for sliding and double-hung openings from 20.39" to 67"

Quick Specs:

Cooling: 14,000 BTU
Coverage: 700 sq ft
Sleep Mode: 42 dB
Dehumidifier: 76 pints/day
Power: 1,200 W / 115 V
Refrigerant: R32

Will it cool your space? Sometimes the answer is no.

Pick the space you are trying to cool. We would rather lose the sale than have you unbox 66 lb of air conditioner and find out it was never going to work.

The unit cooling a single bedroom overnight

Bedroom, office, den, nursery

Up to 350 sq ft

Good fit

Well inside what the compressor is rated for, so it reaches your set temperature quickly and then cycles down instead of running flat out. This is where owners report 5 to 8 minutes to a noticeably cooler room, and where Sleep Mode is quiet enough to leave on all night.

Best for: A bedroom, a home office, a nursery, a workout room, a converted garage

Cold air does not travel through closed doors. Put the unit in the room you want cold, not in the hallway outside it.

GrowthWing HAC904WF dimensions: 25.5 inches high, 15.5 wide, 16.5 deep

What a summer of this actually costs

$99.99 for the unit, and about 900 kWh across a full cooling season. Call it $150 of electricity, or a little over a dollar a day if you run it every day of the summer. Adding a mini-split to one room starts around $2,000 fitted and needs a contractor and a permit. The honest comparison is not against central air; it is against the three months you would otherwise spend sleeping badly.

In the Box

  • GrowthWing HAC904WF portable air conditioner
  • Adjustable window kit and mounting bracket
  • Exhaust hose with twist-on couplings
  • Continuous drain hose for dehumidifier use
  • Remote control with batteries
  • Quick start guide and user manual

Cooling

14,000 BTU ASHRAE from an upgraded rotary compressor, thrown across the room through a 77-degree air outlet, and rated for spaces up to 700 sq ft. It uses R32 refrigerant, which transfers heat more efficiently than the R410A in older units and carries roughly a third of its global warming potential.

Modes

  • Cool
  • Dehumidifier, 76 pints per day
  • Fan only
  • Sleep, with auto-dimming display

Noise

  • 42 dB in Sleep Mode
  • Higher on full cooling, because it is a compressor
  • Display dims automatically at night

Water & Drainage

The self-evaporating system recycles condensate over the condenser and expels it with the exhaust air, giving up to 72 hours of drainage-free cooling in normal humidity. Running it as a dehumidifier, or in a very damp basement, is the case where you attach the included drain hose and let it run continuously to a floor drain. An auto-dry cycle runs the fan after shutdown to dry the evaporator, which is what keeps a portable AC from turning musty over a winter in storage.

Smart Control

  • WiFi through the companion app
  • Alexa and Google voice control
  • Included remote and on-unit buttons
  • Schedules, timers and mode presets

Window Installation

Tool-free. The adjustable panels span horizontal and vertical sliding windows with an opening between 20.39 in and 67 in, which covers most American sliders and double-hung windows. Casement, crank-out and awning windows and patio doors need the universal seal from the All-Weather Setup. Check your window before you order, because it is the one thing that turns a twenty-minute job into a bad afternoon.

Power & Running Cost

  • 1,200 W at 115 V, about 10 A
  • 900 kWh per year, roughly $150 a season
  • Needs an outlet it does not share with other heavy loads

Technical Specifications

  • 25.5"H x 15.5"W x 16.5"D
  • 66 lbs on four casters
  • 115 V, 60 Hz
  • Model HAC904WF

Service

1-year manufacturer warranty as standard, extendable to three years on the compressor, control board and fan motor through the All-Weather + 3-Year Cover setup. Free US shipping, dispatched within 24 hours, and a 60-day money-back guarantee that covers you for a full heatwave.

Take a closer look

What you actually live with, day to day, once it is in the room

Cold in the time it takes to make a coffee

14,000 BTU ASHRAE through an upgraded rotary compressor and a 77-degree outlet. A buyer cooling a workout room with no air conditioning at all clocks it at five to eight minutes; another keeps a 20 x 24 ft room with a vaulted ceiling at 73F through a heatwave.

The portable air conditioner cooling an open living space

42 dB, and the display dims itself

Sleep Mode steps the compressor and fan down and darkens the panel on its own. One owner called out being able to turn the lights off on the machine so the brightness does not affect you, a small thing until it is 2am.

Sleep mode running quietly in a darkened bedroom

Nothing to empty for 72 hours

The self-evaporating system recycles condensate back across the condenser and sends it out of the window as vapour. In normal humidity, in cooling mode, you never touch it. The drain hose in the box is for dehumidifier duty in a damp basement.

Dehumidifier mode and the included drain hose connection

Twenty minutes, no tools, no drilling

The panels slide to length and the hose twists on and clips into the bracket. Buyers who said outright that they were nervous about the window setup still describe it as seamless. If yours is a casement or a patio door, the All-Weather Setup carries the universal seal that fits it.

Exhaust hose and window panel fitted to a sliding window

1,200 W, R32 refrigerant

Rated at 900 kWh a year, roughly a dollar a day across a full summer. R32 carries about a third of the global warming potential of the R410A in older units. It is still a compressor: give it an outlet it does not have to share.

This unit cools down your room!

Our previous portable AC went out so we went looking to purchase a new one. The reviews were great for this particular unit and what I like most about it is how quiet it is. Also, how quickly it cools down our very large master bedroom. Our old unit only went down to 64 degrees and this new unit goes down to 61. Easy to set up! Highly recommend this portable AC unit.

Good unit but big power draw

Works well but draws too much power. I am using it to cool my small pc room. Cannot run while pc and Nas are running else it trips a breaker. Limits how long and when I can run the ac unit. The house is only 20 yrs old so not wiring issue.

Good buy!

I have a medium sized top floor apartment. The summer has gotten to be brutal. Felt like I didn’t have AC at all and I have “central air”. Ordered this in hopes to cool it off and my honest opinion is that this is a wonderful product. Soon as it was installed and turned on within the hour it brought in home temps down. Now on day 3 and my living room/kitchen/dining room are ice cold! The bedrooms are lower in temps by a bit (not a lot) but I just leave the doors open to circulate through. Overall it was a good buy for us.

Content with this unit

Wanted to wait until I had used this unit for a while. I'm very happy with the output! It's not loud but not quiet either and I find does not interfere with my sleep. I love all of the features including being able to turn the lights off on the machine so the brightness doesn't affect you. It cools well! The exhaust hose/window vent set up was seamless.
